K1 Approved

After Your K-1 is Approved

  1. FILE FORM DS-160

Each applicant must submit a Form DS-160 detailing personal information and the reason for the visit. When you sign the DS-160 electronically, you are certifying that all the information contained in it is true and correct. Be sure to double-check that all answers are accurate and that each question is answered completely. Please write down or print your Application ID when you start filling out the form. You will need it to retrieve your application.

  2. PAY THE K-1 VISA FEE

Along with the basic I-129F filing fee, K-1 visa applicants must also pay the DS-160 filing fee of $265.

  3. SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW WITH THE US EMBASSY OR CONSULATE

Individuals applying for a K-1 from outside the United States must complete an interview at the US Embassy or Consulate with a consular official. Interviews can have long wait times, so schedule your appointment as soon as possible. You can view current non-immigrant interview wait times on the Department of State website.

  4. SCHEDULE A MEDIAL EXAMINATION WITH AN AUTHORIZED PHYSICIAN

You will need to complete your medical examination prior to your visa interview. The medical examination includes a review of the applicant’s medical history, physical examination, chest x-ray, and blood tests. The authorized physician will either give the applicant the medical examination results to hand-carry to the visa interview or will sent the results directly to the US Embassy or Consulate. Medical examination procedures vary between Embassies and Consulates, and each location provides contact information for authorized physicians. Select your interview location from the List of US Embassies and Consulates and navigate to the Medical Examination step for information on how to schedule a medical exam with an authorized physician.
